Term 2, Week 7 Writing Picture Prompt

Learning Intention: To write sentences that start with a capital letter, have finger spaces between words, and end with a full stop.

Maths: Addition

Learning Intention: To use the concept of part-part-whole when adding things together.

Activity: Divide your mini whiteboard into three sections: part, part and whole.

Roll two dice. Using materials such as Lego, buttons or pasta, make the first number in the first “part”. Then make the second number in the second “part”. Move all the objects into the “whole” section of the whiteboard and count all the objects. How many altogether? You can also use two playing cards instead of dice.

Challenge yourself:

  • How many ways can you make 5?
  • How many ways can you make 10?
  • How many ways can you make 20? Can you write down all the different ways?

Maths: Counting With Objects

Learning Intention: To accurately count up to 50 objects.

Fill a small container with pasta, LEGO blocks, marbles, etc. Tip it out and count the number of objects.

Walk around your home. How many tables are there in the house? How many chairs do you have? How many cushions? How many windows?

Maths: Patterns

Learning Intention: To understand what makes a pattern, and be able to create my own.

Discuss: Look around your home. What patterns do you see?

Activity: Can you make your own patterns using everyday objects? Examples: cutlery, colour pencils, LEGO blocks, etc.
